Baddesley Clinton Walk
This walk through the Warwickshire countryside provides the opportunity to visit Baddesley Clinton Manor. This National Trust property is one of the finest medieval moated manor houses in the country. Baddesley Clinton Manor was the former home of the Ferrers Family, a family staunchly loyal to the Roman Catholic faith. When Henry Ferrell let the house in the 1590’s it became a regular refuge for Jesuit priests.
The route for this walk can be found using OS Explorer Map 221 Coventry and Warwick and in the AA book 50 Walks Warwickshire & West Midlands. The following is a brief resume of the walk but you will need a map or book to follow the exact route.
The walk is mainly through fields and on woodland tracts, and starts from the church near Baddesley Clinton and proceeds through Hay Wood. Hay Wood was once part of the Ancient Forest of Arden. The path through Hay Wood goes straight ahead and emerges at a hand gate, crossing field to Abbey Farm. The route then goes down the drive to meet the A4141, goes right following a track to School Lane. The walk takes you back through the park of Wroxall Abbey, founded by the Benedictine nuns in 1135. From the Abbey parkland the walk continues past a converted windmill on the edge of the village of Rowington Green and joins the Heart of England Way long distance footpath. Warwickshire countryside and footpaths leads back to the lane by the church at Baddesley Clinton.
